Winmodem?  Is that some kind of very nonstandard/obsolete chipset?  Could
be worse -- you could own an old USR Sportster modem (I don't but used to
work for an ISP and you can't believe how many USR [l]users had issues)!

Per your wishes for new, affordable hardware remember two things (1) CPU
greatness, powerfulness and up-to-date-ness are not very important to the
various i386 Unix flavors and (2) http://www.EBay.com :) (I can't beleive I
just recommended ebay which is a piece of "itshay.")
