Using Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala) and GNOME Terminal 2.28.1, $TERM is Xterm.

$ echo $TERM
Xterm
$ 

The only thing I'd change about the mapping is that I'd rather flash the
screen instead of ringing the bell.
