If you use tcsh as your shell, and issue the CTRL-Z suspend keystroke, it depends on what comprises your command line (i.e. which binaries) whether you will be able to successfully "bg %1" or "bg %2" etc... Some commands are waiting on user intervention and input and as such, cannot be selectively-after-the-fact-nohupped.
