Although I'd think it have bitten me by now if those were to blame. This specific box has been running -stable for over a year, cvsuped on average the 1st of each month. I've got buildworlds from the same /usr/src that work fine on other boxes, so it seems to be related to the hardware in this 1550. I'd noticed others (especially Dell users) have reported similar oddities of late, so I thought something may have changed recently that caused the problem to occur.
