The TeXinfo is the official documentation, and it has lots of
examples. Here are my two favorites:
wollman@khavrinen(2)$ cat /etc/net.map
/defaults type:=host;fs:=${autodir}/${rhost}/root;rhost:=${key}
* opts:=rw,nosuid,grpid
wollman@halloran-eldar(430)$ cat /etc/home.map
/defaults type:=linkx
mercury type:=nfs;rhost:=mercury;rfs:=/u/wollman;opts:=rw,soft,intr
* sublink:=${key};fs:=/usr/users
