Yes, upgrade to the swi-pl port has been on my todo list for some time. I intend to deal with this as soon as I get fair amount of time for FreeBSD things. But I can't give you specific timeline at this moment due to some personal issues. I'm hoping to take care of this and other port related issues before the summer (in northern hemisphere, that is.)
