Compiling the pdf version (# $Id: Makefile,v 1.11 1999/01/27 23:39:47
nik Exp $) of docbook handbook i get:

This is pdfTeX, Version 3.14159-0.12r (Web2C 7.2)
Sorry, I can't find the format `pdfjadetex.fmt'; will try `pdftex.fmt'.
(/usr/local/share/texmf/pdftex/config/pdftex.cfg) (handbook.tex
Babel <v3.6j> and hyphenation patterns for american, french, german,
ngerman, n
ohyphenation, loaded.

The files pdfjadetex.fmt and pdftex.fmt exist at:

/usr/local/share/texmf/web2c/pdfjadetex.fmt
