IMO, a more flexible scheme would be to send a ``suspend immediate'' command to the drive at the appropriate time, rather than having it time out all by itself. The definition of ``the appropriate time'' could be related to ACPI, values of sysctls, or something user-definable. But this patch is cool, too.
