Details needed. Does FreeBSD detect the scanner as a scanner device, or does it just show up as "ugen"? If you have the scanner on at bootup, this will show in dmesg. Otherwise, the message should show on ttyv0. 4.10 does show the HP 5200C in /usr/src/sys/dev/usb/uscanner.c.
