Did you check boot info ? If not, you can use dmesg to see it, and look
for references to ed0. Maybe there is a hardware conflict.

Networking setup for FreeBSD is similar to SunOS and others. For your
case, create a /etc/hostname.ed0 containing your IP address. Look at the
netstart script to see how is it used, in case you haven't.
