Think of them like ISA and PCI cards--PCCards are 16-bit, and CardBus cards are 32-bit. /etc/defaults/pccard.conf is a good place to look for a list of supported cards in -STABLE. 3Com PCCard NICs are well supported, and there's a variety supported by the ed driver also.
