Quite a few people have been having problems with the old Matsushita
CR-56x driver in the latest release of FreeBSD. At first, I assumed
it was because I didn't know what I was doing (am an old VMS hacker
:) but a quick check of Usenet showed a number of people with
problems.

Anyway, the basic problem is that the 4.0 kernel doesn't detect the
matcd driver, at all. It doesn't matter what you put in /etc/fstab
and your kernel configuration; it's not loaded during kernel boot,
period.

This is, to say the least, annoying. :)

Is there a fix for this behaviour available? I'd be willing to run a
debugger to give more detailed info about it, if I were given
instructions for how to get the debugger going.

I know the CR-56x drive in my machine works, as I got it to run under
DOS. The line in my kernel config that tries to load it is:

device matcd at isa? port 0x360

Thanks.
