Can anyone show me what's wrong or missing? HP DeskJet 672c works correctly with Windows 98, so it must be physically connected correctly. But when I enter either lp or lpr, I get this message: " lpr: lp: unknown printer" What I HAVE done so far: - a MAKEDEV to create /dev/lpt0 - created a filter (/usr/local/libexec/hpif) verbatum from the online Handbook - altered /etc/printcap to printer|lp|HP Desk......:\ and added :if=/usr/local/libexec/hpif: - created /etc/rc.local (lpcontrol -i) Also, ps -aux reveals no lptd daemon, although there is a /var/spool/output/lpd directory out there. #lptest > /dev/lpt0 gets the printer hardware's attention, but nothing prints.
