If you don't delete the /usr/obj/ directory, make world is a great deal quicker, as it only updates stuff that has changed. The rationale for deleting it regularly is that, over time, dependancies can change and strange errors can slip in that are easily avoided by recompiling everything. However, with a difference of a day or so, you'll probably be fine not deleting it.
