Sounds like your modem wasn't probed. The latest version of ppp is a
lot more forgiving in this respect (and tells you what it's doing).
What does ``dmesg | fgrep sio'' show ? Have any of the serial lines
been probed ? Before you do the ``term'', what does ``show modem''
say ?
