Well, 2 things.
1. Please cc: replies to the list.  Because I haven't the slightest idea
where to start on that problem.
2. You have the option of downloading the distribution(s) to a dos partition
and installing from there if you so choose.

As far as I know there aren't THAT many problems with the ftp/modem install.
