Basically: fail2ban uses .local files to change the configuration. fail2ban reads the .conf file first, than a .local file if it exists. See also http://www.fail2ban.org/wiki/index.php/MANUAL_0_8#Configuration So you should make your changes not in the .conf files but in a .local file. Christoph
