Compete Inc. is searching for experienced and hard working system administrators to join its growing team and bring us to the leading edge of real-time Internet competitive analysis solutions. General description: Administration and operation of the Compete's internal data crunching farm of servers and of our end product www.compete.com. Responsible for system and network configuration, server performance, tuning and monitoring systems. Also working with engineering team to ensure the best OS and system support for building new competitive analysis solutions. These positions are located in Boston's historic Back Bay area at the corner of Exeter and Newbury Street. Responsibilities: * Configure and manage a distributed data crunching farm of FreeBSD/Linux servers * Manage installation, upgrade and recovery of OS and hardware * Monitor performance and traffic - tune and upgrade components as required * Work close with the Engineering team to expand and grow the core product * Develop systems to automate, maintain and monitor the system. * Run projects with HW supplier and network supplier Required Skills: * Must be highly organized and detail-oriented * Must have excellent communication skills * Must be able to work in a team, but also take responsibilities. * Must have excellent knowledge of FreeBSD and Linux Nice to haves: * Experience with open source tools (CVS, Bugzilla, Tomcat, Resin, etc.) * Fluency in conventional software languages (C/C++, shell scripting, etc.) * Fluency in conventional database systems (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, etc.) Minimum Qualifications * Undergraduate degree in applicable field, preferably Computer Science * 4+ years experience with PC based UNIX systems (FreeBSD/Linux) Contact: David Cancel VP, Engineering & Operations david@compete.com To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-jobs" in the body of the message
