Hi Andreas:

I have faced some of the issues that you mention with=20
  KDE 3.3
  FireFox 1.0.4
  Linux kernel 2.6.9-5 and=20
  xorg-x11-6.8.1-23

However, I am still learning the ropes on FreeBSD and=20
so unable to repro your observation on a FreeBSD machine.
