Just had a chance to review some of the archived messages on this subject and thought I would offer what help I could to resolve this issue. I have little experience with debugging techniques but can follow directions. I'm running FreeBSD 5.4 on two machines. Both allow startx access as root at this time. If you thing I might be of help, let me know. If not, I certainly can understand given my lack of experience.
