FYI, I am running Home Assistant under byhve, backing it up using zfs -
snapshots.

Upgrades are smooth. I can use all the add-ons and extensions.

It is what I recommend, despite my past efforts to get it working via ports.

Some systems are monoliths, not just a single port. That describes Home
Assistant to me.
