It should be wiring = the sensor closed or some such if it isn't implemented. OTOH, it seems like the Linux hotplug code (by my reading) doesn't actually care if the sensor is o= pen. As a test, can you try patching pcib_hotplug_inserted() in sys/dev/pci/pci_pci.c to comment out the last check?
