    are they really different? this is how it's been on my boxes since I
    remember:

    roman@freepuppy ~ 1020:0 > ls -l /etc/aliases
    lrwx------  1 root  wheel  12 Sep 15  2002 /etc/aliases -> mail/aliases
    roman@freepuppy ~ 1021:0 > uname -sr
    FreeBSD 4.8-RC
