High on my wish list is for ps to produce what output it can, instead of exiting prematurely. It could complain about the proc mismatch and then list the names and pids before exiting. ps manages to find this information when ps and kernel are out of sync, so long as /proc is not mounted. -- Adam David <adam@veda.is>
