Yes, that's what i tried first, but then the drive is not found at all,
although the whole slice is unused.
The disklabel shows only one entry, which is c and of type unused.
But using da2c gives the same result as da2s1.

Do i have to create some dummy partitions on da2s1 to get one extra
unused or how do i go about it if i want the whole drive to be used by
vinum?

Helpless, confused and unable 
to understand the manual,
