The machine has/had 3COM 3C905B cards in it. The card was able to successfully negotiate with my switch, and was able to handle the DNS lookups necessary to reach the "commit" stage. However, when it was time for the distributions to be downloaded, the card began, took down about 15K bytes, and then died. This happened with a local NFS distro point and also ftping to current.freebsd.org. The 3COM card continued to respond to pings but never loaded more than 3-5 files from either NFS or FTP. I tried two separate 3COM cards, both had the same results. I then put an Intel EtherExpress Pro 100B card in, and the installation proceeded without a hitch. This may be related to either: A. some interaction w/ the dual PII setup (SuperMicro P6DBE) or B. something to do with the latest committed fix to the if_xl driver -Troy Cobb Circle Net, Inc. http://www.circle.net Here's the appropriate dmesg listing after loading with the fxp card: Copyright (c) 1992-1999 FreeBSD Inc.
