Can I ask howcome the stuff unpacks into the contrib_softupdates
directory, instead of src/sys/contrib/softupdates, or
contrib/softupdates, or just softupdates? That's the way all the other
stuff works, as far as I've seen, so I think I could maybe understand
Kirk's confusion. I was going to comment that Jordan had made an error,
but he's right, that's where it unpacks, but I can't understand why.
Such a directory "contrib_softupdates" doesn't exist in the cvs tree.

It isn't something traceable to the initial confusion about how to
handle Kirk's copyrighted material, is it?
