check to see if the drivers for your scsi card are in the default kernel on the cd. it could be that the bios sees the cdrom and boots to it, but the kernel on the cd doesn't support your card, in which case it wouldn't see anything on the cd. if the card isn't supported, compile a kernel with support and boot from it.
