Sorry my box with the parallel port zip drive is at home. I am quite shure that on my box is a line in dmesg output indicating da0 is there. I expect also some output due to the scbus0. You can find some notes on my experiences in installing freebsd on http://www-es.fernuni-hagen.de/~jfh/FreeBSD_Documentation/ . Did you compile and install the kernel with your config file? Maybe you should use lpt0 for the drive. The second parallel port is not necessary.
