Maybe in future releases, the /var/tmp directory/partition or the /tmp directory/partition could be removed? Unfortunately, according to the FHS they both need to exist... One more thing, I haven't tried sysinstall for the 4.4-RC builds, but for 4.3-RELEASE, when you let sysinstall create the partitions automatically, it uses way too less space for the /var partition including the /var/tmp directory. (When using a 5 GB slice, it uses only 20 or 60 MB for /var). That should be changed is my opinion...
