If this is the case, edit your /usr/local/etc/cups/printers.conf file and change the device for the printer from /dev/unlptX to /dev/ulptX and restart cupsd. This should solve the problem. I have committed a patch to cups base which will affect newly added or configured printers only. You could recondigure the printer using the admin interface, too, after rebuilding cups.
