Hi folks,

I had posted this to hardware@freebsd.org the other day. Has anyone gotten
a Sony SMO 544 drive to work properly under FreeBSD ? I have not yet
succeeded in making a filesystem on it. For example:

test: {46} disklabel -rwB od0 auto
test: {47} newfs /dev/rod0c
newfs: ioctl (GDINFO): Invalid argument
newfs: /dev/rod0c: can't read disk label; disk type must be specified

This is a 2.2-970703-RELENG system.

dmesg says:

(ahc0:6:0): "SONY SMO-F541+3 1.13" type 7 removable SCSI 2
od0(ahc0:6:0): Optical 1243MB (1273011 1024 byte sectors)

I wonder if it would be possible to low-level format the media to 512
bytes/sector. Or can I get FreeBSD to use 1024 bytes/sector formatted media
? It looks as if the format were the problem. I am using 2.6 GB media from
Maxell (1.3 GB per side).

Thanks,

Michael
