Their excuse is, that they work around this in their BIOS and the Compaq supplied OS drivers. I've already put a lot of effort into working around these bugs! (It is easier for Compaq: Their BIOS has to support their system ONLY. I have to find a solution that works well with Compaq and other hardware, and that is much more of a problem ...) Do you have some other FreeBSD system to build a kernel on ? There ought to be some messages corresponding to PCI bus chips, at least if booting with "-v". Please send all numbers from those lines. I'll tell you what you can do. The Compaq SCSI controller is most probably some variant of the NCR5380 (not of the NCR53c810 !). I'm not sure, whether the FreeBSD "nca" driver will support that chip.
