I have recently started working with FreeBSD, so please be understanding with my question, in case I have missed something obvious. I have come from many years in an OS/2 development environment. My hardware includes 3Com 3C905 and recently 3C905B 10/100 Ethernet cards. The older 3C905 work with 2.2.6 and 2.2.7. However the later 3C905B cards do not work. I have found and read "Problem Report kern/6197" regarding this issue. I applied the suggested changes and rebuilt the kernel, but my boot stopped after the message that SYSLOG daemon was starting. After 20 minutes I had to push the RESET button. I have read the Problem Report, and note that on 08-16 the problem State was changed to CLOSED. However I did not see comments about how to fix this problem. It seems from the comments on that Report that the problem remains unfixed. If convenient, please point me in the direction so that I may get FreeBSD to run on these 3Com 3C905B Cards. I am much impressed with FreeBSD, and with the "Spirit of cooperation and co-development" which seems to be prevalent. I am working to move our servers from OS/2 to FreeBSD.
