No, I hadn't. It doesn't bother me that the build or install would have failed because I was running an old Xorg, but it should not have blown away my existing Firefox install. It looked like a portupgrade bug, but I didn't have the patience to dig in and find it. I upgraded portupgrade, Xorg, and successfully built a new Firefox 2.0.0.
