There are multiple ways. The most classic way would be to make a bunch of symlinks from various directorys in /usr to space in /mnt. A better way would be to back up /usr, then reformat the /usr and /mnt partitions as vinum partitions, and create a concatenated volume of the resulting space, then restore /usr to that. This takes a little know-how, so you'd be well advised to try it out on a test system to get acquianted with vinum first. ... although, I'm not sure what the status of Vinum is in 5.x ... last I asked, it wasn't reliable on 5.x yet, but that's been a while.
