Yes! It seems to solve problem. I only say seems because the first time I rebuilt the kernel (a few hours ago) I got a page fault in the swapper when I booted, and when I tried the old kernel, it warned that it didn't find the loader(8) metadata. That was a bit of a scare. I recompiled, making sure I ran make depend first. I usually skip this step when the only change is an edit to a driver I am working on. Anyway, it compiled, rebooted, and shutdown -p with no problem. Any idea why this solves the problem? Any idea why my first attempt failed so miserably? I would expect a dependency problem to crash the compile, but not the machine. | Also, as to why, it is basically a rewrite. Got it. jm -- My other computer is your windows box.
