Ideally, the xpm dependencies should hide in a bsd.xfree*.mk file with XF86_VERSION=4 causing the dependency to "vanish." Practically, it still doesn't make a difference (except that the build of xpm is redundant). I've seen no ill effects in nearly two years of operation.
