Servus, i have a serious performance problem with my harddisk. i am using a Maxtor U/DMA 100 with soft updates enabled my problem are for example tgz files that contain many small files, i used the time command to extract the ports collection (13MB as tgz) and time figured out that the total time was: 13 min and user time less than one second. In addition to time command i also used top, and tar had a priority of -6 and status switched between biord and getblk the cpu idle time was near 99%... could anybody help me? Thanks.
