This worked and I was finally able to use the 3com install program to set the config to TR:COAX from autosense, but the problem wasn't solved, unfortunately. :-(( So now I have the 3com EtherLink III PCMCIA card set to use BNC, and it is probed OK, but any ifconfig I do leaves FreeBSD only able to do a localhost ping . . . all other hosts on my LAN give "host is down" Sorry to take up so much bandwidth on this same question, but assuming the system IS trying to use the BNC connection on the EtherLink III, what other circumstances could cause this???
