Those problems were removed from the source awhile back, and you can now build it by just following the simple instructions in the README. Attempting to build using ports would probably fail even if it ignored the MD5, because the patches most likely wouldn't match. (I'm just guessing, as I don't recall the exact version when the need for patches was removed, and have never installed it on FreeBSD, only NetBSD (I used to use the FreeBSD patches, but don't anymore).
