https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D277447 Muhammad Moinur Rahman <bofh@freebsd.org> changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CC| |bofh@freebsd.org Resolution|--- |Works As Intended Status|New |Closed --- Comment #3 from Muhammad Moinur Rahman <bofh@freebsd.org> --- The correct way to go is to bump the port and rebuild the port as there is change in the pkg manifest or the pkg contents. However this means that all ports will also be rebuilt dependent upon this port. And these are issues a= re actually cosmetic changes which has not too big of an impact like library dependencies. Even if an end user do not update or rebuild this port it's n= ot going to affect them at all. Because for now we are finding man pages from = both ${PREFIX}/man and ${PREFIX}/share/man. I did a major moves of manpages on the prime ports which have lots of dependencies and have bumped them while I have also fixed other ports which= I have not bumped depending on the weight of the port. So I really do not thi= nk it is really worth the time on bumping these ports at all. On another note if you are asking me(with my clusteradm@ hat) when there is= a bump we have to rebuild a lot of ports and that is not only for one case Fo= r 13 we are building on 8 platforms and two(quarterly and latest), for 14 it's t= he same and for 15 it's 6 platforms on latest set. So this means that when I am bumping one port it triggers nearly a rebuild for 22 times and also the dependent ports which really do not make sense for these sort of changes. This is indeed a bug but depending on the domino effect it has I am closing this for now. Feel free to add any comment remarks. Consider it a bug we wi= ll embrace for a short period of time. We will change all ports to have ${PREFIX}/share/man by end of 2024Q2. :) --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.=
