Maybe I'm a little bit late... what will be the runtime result of this patch be for 2.4.2 based linux programs in case they want to use this? I don't know if they are allowed to use this call (= if such a call is in 2.4.2), so maybe the answer is as simple as "they don't use it". If the answer is something similar to "we are in trouble then", I suggest to return ENOSYS in case of non 2.6.x emulation (we already have infrastructure for this, so it's just checking a boolean value).
