I had FreeBSD 2.2.5 installed in my computer, I had also Netscape 3.04 for BSD systems. They both worked fine. Now, I received my new FreeBSD 2.2.6 CD set so I updated my operating system. Everything worked ok. BUT.... When I updated to FreeBSD 2.2.6, text background in Netscape turned to black, and text foreground turned to BLACK also! so, I could not read a single word. I thought I made something wrong while I upgraded my system, so I decided to install FreeBSD again, this time I made an installation, I mean, I did not make an update, I started from nothing. Now the result was "better" but still not good enough. Now the text background is white and the foreground is black. Nevertheless there are some internet pages that I cannot see easily. Then I thought it is a problem with X. I had preserved the XF86Config file, so I erase it and created another one with XF86Setup. It gave me a better X configuration but my fonts still have white background. In my desesperation, I changed my preferences in Netscape's "Options | General Preferences | Fonts". I choose "terminal DEC" font for text, and the problem disappeared. AAAAAHHHH!!! Then I also checked the "Netscape.ad" file in "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/app-defaults". I found a resource in a line that says: *defaultBackground: #C0C0C0 and I change it to: *defaultBackground: #FFFFFF The problem seemed to be solved, but there are some pages that cannot be seen easily. It seems very strange to me that the only applications that has this problem is "Netscape". TeX's xdvi and ghostview also use proportional fonts but they work fine, nevertheless they have white background and not a gray one. I never had had to change the resources file for Netscape, and not that I'm changing it, I don't get that Netscape works fine. I do not know if I should ask this question to FreeBSD gurus. Perhaps it should be asked to XFree86's gurus or to Netscape's creators. I do not know. AAAAHHHHHH!!!!
