I'm not actually sure how it works but I supposed it might be triggered because some hosts advertise IPv6 and some don't (the network in general and its routers don't speak IPv6 so it's useless). I see IPv6 addresses tied to some of my NICs. If the kernel still panics without IPv6 in it, I'll move on to other possible solutions (Doug's first).
