Bridging the Gap: Practical Aspects of Object-Oriented Technology Forum
October 30, 1998, UMBC Campus

BALTIMORE, MD — As part of Greater Baltimore Committe's tech month, the forum 
"Bridging the Gap:  Practical Aspects of Object-Oriented Technology," will be presented on 
Friday, October 30, 1998, from 9:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. on the UMBC campus.  Sponsored by 
UMBC Continuing Education and CITEC (Citizens Technology Education Corporation), the 
conference fee is $50 for professionals working in the field and free to college and university 
students pursuing degrees in computer science or information systems.

Keynote speaker, Dr. Alan Kay is a Disney Fellow and Vice President of Research and 
Development at the Walt Disney Company. He is best known for the idea of personal 
computing, the conception of the intimate laptop computer, and the inventions of the 
ubiquitous overlapping-window interface and modern object-oriented programming.

Forum speakers include, Dr. Peter Wegner, professor of computer science at Brown 
University, Dr. Michael Grasso, president/senior computer specialist at Segue Biomedical 
Computing, and Shon Vick, adjunct faculty member in the computer science department at 
UMBC and senior professional staff member at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics 
Laboratory.

Representatives from companies such as Computer Sciences Corporation, Rational Software 
Corporation, and the Object Management Group will be presenting on the topics of "Specific 
Tools, Techniques, and Languages for the Practical Applications of Object-Oriented 
Technologies."

As a benefit to Maryland software engineers and students pursuing careers in the software 
development field, this forum has been partially underwritten and is sponsored by: UMBC
