Hi, to back up the system, or should I say filesystems, like /usr, or /var, or even /root, I use dump. Quick, easy and well known. You can restore whole filesystems, or one file if you need to. To just backup files, like configfiles, use tar. Again, its been around for ever, is stable and reliable, and works across unix systems.
