Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Sender: owner-freebsd-hardware@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org I have just set up a RAID-0 using a 3ware Escalade 6200 controler, and I am very impressed with the performance, for both reading and writing. In addition, it is true "plug and play": the "twe" driver just works. In addition, the 3DM web-based management utility works like a charm. I am very thankful to Mike Smith for his great work. I am getting >20 MB/sec with sequential writes, and >25 MB/sec with sequential reads (using dd(1)). Using bonnie, I got these results: Write cache disabled: -------Sequential Output-------- ---Sequential Input-- --Random-- -Per Char- --Block--- -Rewrite-- -Per Char- --Block--- --Seeks--- Machine MB K/sec %CPU K/sec %CPU K/sec %CPU K/sec %CPU K/sec %CPU /sec %CPU 640 8630 96.9 21731 86.8 5721 24.0 5528 97.1 27294 61.6 159.8 4.2 Write cache enabled: -------Sequential Output-------- ---Sequential Input-- --Random-- -Per Char- --Block--- -Rewrite-- -Per Char- --Block--- --Seeks--- Machine MB K/sec %CPU K/sec %CPU K/sec %CPU K/sec %CPU K/sec %CPU /sec %CPU 640 8662 97.2 22845 91.8 6289 26.4 5516 97.2 24421 54.5 157.7 4.0 The file system has softupdates enabled. The CPU is a PPro/180. The disks are mid-range Seagates (ATA-66); I am waiting for two 75GB IBM DTLA to arrive. The system is running FreeBSD 4.3-BETA. Cheers, -- JMA ****** Jose M.
