Alan's patch just mentioned making CUPS unconditional.  I think the
pkg-message blurb is really important.

I did some testing.  If you just install cups-base, and link Samba to it,
SWAT and testparm (with the smb.conf.default copied to smb.conf) make the
default printing = bsd.  This is good.  If you set it to cups, printing
doesn't work since it still tries to use the BSD lpr.  Even setting
``print command = '' didn't fix things.

So, it seems nothing is broken if cups-base is linked in, except CUPS
printing won't work.
