Thanx Well, on a close inspection of `man syslog.conf' I realized that the only reference to this kind of behavior is: o A pathname (beginning with a leading slash). Selected messages are appended to the file. which does not clearly specify if the file is created on demand or not. Probably a candidate for a PR here.
